Dr. Peter Grinberg

Having a love of animals and the great outdoors, I had initially thought of becoming a naturalist. However, with a brother in medical school, my interest in medicine grew, so veterinary school made sense. After graduating in 1984, I went to work at the Avalon Animal Hospital in St. Johns, Newfoundland. I had a wonderful time in that truly unique part of Canada, but a year and a half later, I was drawn back to Ontario to be closer to my family.

After working at the Hamilton Emergency Clinic for about a year, I started to collect equipment and courage, and late in 1987, I opened Manitou Animal Hospital. All these years later, I still truly enjoy the daily surgeries we get to do – it still amazes me how animals tend to bounce back, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, so soon after major surgery.

It is amazing to me to remember the early days of Manitou Animal Hospital when it was just Lisa and I running the clinic and I would bring my boxers, Jessie and Echo, to work with me every day. Things have become more complex since then, but I appreciate that we still have a close-knit team who is enjoyable to work with.
