Every business knows that they must do the dreaded inventory. Whether it be quarterly, or annually, it must be done. It is time-consuming and often must be done at a not so pleasant time, such as the Saturday of a long weekend, but we know we need to do it. It is important for companies to know how much inventory they have and ultimately the worth of said inventory, but it can have a few other unforeseen benefits as well.
It is time for great team bonding! As we all grudgingly volunteer or are “voluntold” to give a hand we work together. It can be fun. You work as a pair to find and note the number of each of the products.
You also hear some key statements on inventory day:
“So, this is where we keep it” – it helps staff learn where the placement of products in the clinic.
“We have this?” – staff learns what different products we carry and can be offered to clients
“What is this?” – Many staff member picks up a product and wonders what it is. It is a great time for others to learn about new products.
“Did you know this is expired” – awesome time to make sure that products are being routinely removed if expired.
We also have a good time pronouncing product. Many of the medications are a bit troublesome to pronounce, and this is a great time offering up alternative ways to say it!
I can’t assume that each clinic is the same, but we try to do our best to make a bit more of an event, and it is great to see so many of the staff involved in doing all they can to get it done in a timely and unique way.
