We use vaccines to help protect cats against common viruses that are easily transmitted in the environment.

Does my indoor cat need to be vaccinated?

Yes! Firstly, an up to date rabies vaccine is required by Ontario by-law. Secondly, several other viruses are transmitted indirectly, meaning people and other pets can bring /carry viruses into the cat’s environment. This is often misunderstood, as the common thought is that cats can only contract a virus by being in direct contact with an infected cat.

What are FVRCP and core vaccine for cats?

FVRCP – Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia. Rhino and Calici are both common contagious upper respiratory viruses; Rhino is a strain of the herpes virus. Panleukopenia is caused by feline parvovirus (not the same as dog parvovirus) is also highly contagious.

How often does my adult cat need to be vaccinated?

We use an annual (1 year) rabies vaccine, and a biennial (2 years) FVRCP vaccine for adult cats that we see on a regular basis.

Are there any risks associated with cat vaccines?

It is common for cats to be sleepy on the day of vaccination, but that should not persist. Our vaccines are specifically formulated for cats to reduce any chance of cats developing vaccine site issues.
