Arthritis Treatment

Some of the common symptoms of arthritis in dogs include limping, stiffness, tiredness, and difficulty moving. You may also see muscle atrophy, licking or chewing at areas of discomfort. Dogs that suffer from arthritis of the spine may also show a hunched or stiff appearance in their neck or back.

Arthritis can be caused by tissue destruction from infections, congenital disabilities, and stress or trauma to the joint surfaces. Occasionally immune system disorders can also cause joint tissue degeneration and inflammation.

Treatment options for arthritis in dogs can vary slightly depending on severity. Natural alternatives include supplementation with glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM or omega fatty acids. In more severe cases the Dr. will prescribe Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) or other pain control.

It is not advisable to give any over the counter medications without consulting with the Veterinarian directly.
