Maintaining oral health is equally important for pets as it is for humans.
Dental disease in dogs is often missed or put off but should be addressed to keep your dog happy and healthy. We all want to get the happy, non-smelly kisses. Make sure that you routinely have a look into your dog’s mouth to see what may be going on. Concerns range from smell, redness, right through to oozing and loose teeth. The mouth can be uncomfortable when it has issues and taking care of it will make your dog feel better.
We are able to offer dental care here to help your dog. We offer dental cleanings (with scaling and polishing), removal of loose teeth and teeth with root exposure, and general maintenance. All this is done under a general anesthetic. When your dog is asleep we can check all the areas in the mouth, ultrasonically scale the teeth and polish them up. We are able to locally block any problem areas where teeth may be removed to cut down on discomfort. We are also able to offer a referral to a board-certified dental surgeon if your dog’s needs are greater or their dental x-rays are warranted. They are local and work well with us in your dog’s care.
It would be great to brush your dog’s teeth as often as you are able to brush yours! It reduces bacteria and debris, which in turn slows down the build-up of plaque and tartar. Thus, the more frequently that you can brush your dog’s teeth the better for its overall health.
Oral and dental health are very important to help avoid other health concerns. The mouth carries a lot of bacteria and with poor hygiene, the bacteria is able to travel from the mouth to the rest of your dog. It can easily lead to other health concerns. We all want happy kisses from our dog and a clean mouth is better for this.
